Ethan & The Reign of Fear

Nine-year old Ethan is alone. His mum has remarried, his step family is a nightmare, and the kids at school have turned on him. So, when his only friend, and protector, is kidnapped by a marauding minotaur during a thunder storm, Ethan has no option but to mount a rescue.

Leaping through the portal in his bedroom, Ethan lands in a world besieged by the evil storm lord, Thunder Hoof. The queen of this swamp kingdom views Ethan’s arrival as prophetic, and their last hope for survival, so she forces Ethan and her royal advisor, Runa, into an volatile alliance. Together, they undertake a perilous journey through the swamp, and its menagerie of cut throat creatures, to Thunder Hoof’s mountain fortress.

On paper, their mission looks simple: rescue Ethan’s only friend, and destroy Thunder Hoof’s unstoppable power source before he can launch his invasion. However, neither Ethan or Runa are ready for the horrible truth that awaits them, because this is more than just a battle for the freedom of the swamp, this is a battle for Ethan’s soul.

ETHAN AND THE REIGN OF FEAR is the first in a planned trilogy of fantasy novels aimed at Middlge Grader readers. It will appeal to readers who enjoy the fast pace of the Skullduggery Pleasant series and fantasy elements of the Narnia and Wishing Well series. Tonally it shares a lot with the Amblin movies from the 80s (E.T. & The Goonies).
